Description

Recommended for:

  • Revell 1/32 scale P-51D-5 Mustang
  • can be adapted to fit other 1/32 scale P-51B through P-51K Mustang models
  • suitable for other Packard-built Merlin-powered aircraft such as the P-40F
  • and more!

This four-part set represents the shrouded exhausts of the Packard V-1650 Merlin-powered P-51 Mustang fighter of World War Two and later, specifically the P-51B, P-51C, P-51D and P-51K. The V-1650 was a Rolls Royce Merlin engine license-built in the United States by Packard Motor Car Company.

Packard-built Merlins were also fit to the P-51H Mustang, P-63 King Cobra, and P-40F Warhawk. Packard-built Merlins were fit to many de Havilland Mosquito and Avro Lancaster aircraft built in Canada.

These parts are an original 3D design based on measurements made from a surviving Packard-bult V-1650-7 Merlin engine and scans of original North American Aviation blueprints available through AirCorpsLibrary.com. The Packard V-1650-7 was the common powerplant of the P-51D and P-51K Mustang (Mustang Mk.IV and CA-18 Mk.21).

Caution is recommended when cutting away the attachment sprue and when handling these parts. The exhausts are very thin.

The set is optimized to fit the new-tool Revell 1/32 scale P-51D-5 and P-51D-15 kits as direct replacements for the kits' solid exhaust parts. These exhausts are designed for a tight fit. They do not come with the locator tabs found on the back of the Revell kit's exhausts. This permits better adjustment of the exhausts and shrouds within the kit's engine panel exhaust slot for easier assembly. "Dry fitting" these parts (test fitting without glue) is essential for best fit.

The models are not 3D-printed copies of any plastic or resin kit's parts. Therefore, they may be sized, shaped and detailed differently than the parts in your kit. Depending on which kit you have, some adjustment to your kit's parts may be needed for best fit.

These parts are left- and right-handed. When installing your parts, position them so the side with the wider-spaced nuts is down.

These parts are made of acrylic plastic. Acrylic plastic does not behave like injection-molded polystyrene plastic or other resins. Glues for polystyrene plastic, like "Testors Liquid Cement" or tube cement, will not work with acrylic plastic. Cyanoacrylate (CA) "super glue" is recommended.
